Venezuela Flies Aid To Storm-Ravaged Haiti
08 September 2008
CARACAS –Venezuela is sending Haiti 20 tons of food and relief supplies as Hurricane Ike drenches the flood-ravaged nation.
President Hugo Chávez says a plane is carrying food and bottled water to the city of Gonaives.
The Bolivarian News Agency said Sunday that Venezuela will also send aid workers and medicine.
Some 33 tons of aid were delivered from the U.N. World Food Program on Friday — the largest single shipment to reach Gonaives since four deadly storms swept Haiti in recent weeks.
Haiti is Latin America’s poorest country.
