France Stops Haiti Deportations

0 Comments 14 January 2010

The Immigration Department in France says it has stopped expelling illegal immigrants from Haiti for now.

Immigration minister, Eric Besson, says all proceedings aimed at deporting Haitians who have been caught in France have been suspended.

However, there have been no details on how many people will be affected by the suspension, or how long it’s expected to last.

Analysts say the move is in line with French policy not to return illegal migrants to countries where their lives are at risk.
