American Commercial Flights To Haiti Resume On Friday

0 Comments 17 February 2010

Fort Worth, TX, United States (AHN) – American Airlines will resume commercial flights to earthquake-ravaged Haiti on Friday, the airline announced Tuesday. American Airlines will be the first airline to do so.

The company suspended flights to and from the Haitian capital city in January after the city was hit by a major earthquake that killed hundreds of thousands of people and brought an uncounted number of structures crumbling to the ground.

The island’s Toussaint Louverture International Airport also sustained significant damage to some of its buildings, according to reports. American’s first flight will leave Miami International Airport at 6:40 a.m. Friday and land in Port-au-Prince two hours later, according to a statement by the airline. Flight plans include two flights from Miami and one from Fort Lauderdale, and a flight from New York’s JFK four days a week. Despite the suspended commercial flights, the airline’s presence has been felt on the island, as it has been flying in volunteers, medical personnel and supplies to help in the rescue and rebuilding process.
