The teenage Haitian boy held by the police in Portland more than a month ago is to appear in the Port Antonio Resident Magistrate’s Court on April 12.
Sixteen-year-old Jean-Saint Homme of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince is to answer to the charge of illegal entry.
He has been in police custody since February 12, after arriving in the island two days earlier.
The Haitian teenager reportedly fled his earthquake-ravaged homeland and was helped by a group of St Catherine fishermen who took him ashore to the Hellshire Beach in Portmore, St. Catherine.
The boy reported that he journeyed to Portland by bus, after receiving $1,000 from a resident of St Catherine.
He later visited a friend’s house in Fairy Hill, who alerted the police.
According to the police, following interrogation, the Haitian teen admitted that he has been involved with an illegal syndicate in the guns for drugs trade.
He also told investigators that in 2009 he traveled between Haiti and Jamaica on three occasions as part of the illicit activity.
The police say they’re working with their counterparts in Haiti to carry out operations to nab players in the guns for drugs trade.
