Port au Prince, Haiti — A large fire ripped through one of the main public markets in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince on Monday.
The fire consumed hundreds of stalls at the Marche du Port markets.
Authorities have yet to report any deaths or injuries.
Firefighters are still working to put out the blaze, as stall owners frantically attempt to save what they can of their merchandise.
“I don’t know what to do, but we’ll have to call a private water truck if there are not enough fire trucks,” said one market seller, Pierre Eliane.
“The front of the market place is already burned down. We don’t know if the area where we kept our merchandise is also burning, because they won’t let us go near it,” said another market seller Samuel Fritznel.
Some people took advantage of the chaos to steal food and other goods.
Many Haitians are still living in the streets of Port-au-Prince after the country was devastated by a January 12th earthquake which killed more than 300,000 people, according to the Haitian government.
