Haiti postal code “HT6110″ “Port-au-prince Capital of Haiti”

“Zip Code” is a United States of America thing only… (Or U.S. territories or bases etc.) other countries use “postal codes”

Haiti uses four-digit postal codes, always prefixed with “HT”. The first digit represents the department; the first two, the arrondissement; the first three, the commune.

Devastated Porto-Au-Prince as seen from 250 miles above the Earth.

In what is perhaps the final frontier for Internet access, Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi shared photos he had taken of Earth from the International Space Station via his Twitter page. In addition to scenic locations and sprawling urban centers, Noguchi’s photos provide some of the first looks of Haiti’s capital, Port-Au-Prince, just weeks after it was devastated by the recent earthquake. Like the first photographs of Earth from space in the 1960s were humbling in their depiction of our planet as a fragile blue marble in the vastness of space, Noguchi’s photos not only remind us of our impact on the environment, but also how far we’ve come technologically.

Cruise ships are bringing tourists to a private Haitian beach resort, which is less than 200km from the quake-hit capital Port-au-Prince.

The scene of comfort and joy, on an island where thousands of people have died or are in dire need of food, water and medical, has provoked much controversy and concern.

Despite Generous Relief Efforts, PR Pros Say Cruise Line Has Damaged Reputation With Its Response

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Royal Caribbean cruise line has come under heavy media fire for making a scheduled stop at a private resort in Labadee, Haiti, where it maintains a private beach some 60 miles from the earthquake-ravaged Port-au-Prince (New York Post headline: “Ship of Ghouls.”). And despite Royal Caribbean’s various pledges to the Haiti relief effort — a $1 million donation; donating 100% of its net revenue from cruise ship visits to Haiti; and using its vessels to drop off food, water, lounge chairs and beach furniture — the company is still getting flak for bringing vacationers to Labadee and for the handling of its messaging.

The travel trade is being urged to support a number of initiatives designed to support Haiti in the country’s hour of need.

Haiti-born Jean-Marc Flambert, director of Your Tourism Partner and former head of the Sri Lankan Tourism Board, has already put together an action plan to help his country following Tuesday’s catastrophic earthquake and is hoping the industry will get behind it.

PORT-AU-PRINCE — Crumbled walls cover priceless works of Haitian art. There are dead bodies outside the entrance. Food will run short soon.

Following the devastating earthquake that wrecked Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, the once-elegant Hotel Villa Creole, set on a hillside with lush tropical vegetation, is still, astonishingly, open for business.
