Ten American missionaries have been detained in Haiti for trying to take 33 children out of the country after the earthquake on January 12th.

Pastor Jean Sainvil says he gave the missionaries permission to move a busload of Haitian children to the Dominican Republic, but he says the Idaho group didn’t complete the required paperwork.

Doctor, “Quake Victims Dying Without US Airlifts”

MIAMI – The U.S. military has halted flights carrying Haitian earthquake victims to the United States because of an apparent cost dispute, though a doctor warned that some injured patients faced imminent death if the flights don’t resume.

The evacuations were temporarily suspended Wednesday, said Capt. Kevin Aandahl, spokesman for U.S. Transportation Command. The flights were halted a day after Florida Gov. Charlie Crist asked the federal government to help pay for care.

VIDEO: Reports of Violence, Fears of “Undercover Occupation”

Reports rose Jan. 18 of looting and vigilantism among increasingly desperate earthquake survivors as Port-au-Prince awaits the deployment of more US troops. A 12,000-strong US contingent is expected to arrive by the end of the week, to assist the 3,000 police and some 9,000 troops from the UN force MINUSTAH in the city. The reported lynching of one suspected looter along with shootings have led to an increase in UN patrols. The country’s legal system and government are largely non-operational.
