I am in total accord with you. In fact, Haitians never had a skin problem but a class problem. Haitians are known to inter-marry many nationalities around the world.

At least, Ms. Bertin should be able to speak Haitian languages to qualify as a national representative.

Mais si vous n’avez jamais ete victime des mechancetes ou de la discrimination de couleur ou de complexion AU XXIe SIECLE, vous n’avez PAS le droit de juger ou d’empecher a en parler a ceux qui l’endurent chaque jour de leur vie. La denegation d’un fait ne veut pas dire qu’il n’existe pas.

She didn’t live in DR ALL her life. She was born and raised in Haiti until she was around 10 I believe. Her mother was assassinated by people working for the Haitian government so her father moved her and her siblings to DR to be safe.

So, the point here is that she doesn’t have the right to win because she is not black enough? Even though she would have been the most beautiful between the contestants? Who is the racist?
And Im not saying she is the most beautiful, (because in those pics I can barely see the other girls, and neither that she is the most beautiful because of her skin color, what you are saying is that a black woman should represent Haiti because more of their people is black, and what about the black woman (or mixed if you want to see it like that) who represented Italy in 1996? She shouldn’t have represented Italy because more of their people is white?
Sometimes I believe that black people are more racists against themselves than white people is.
I am not black or white, I am a very mixed latina, I don’t see people by their color, people is people, and people is not beautiful because of how they look but because of their acts.

Haiti and America are two different countries with two different pasts. America has dragged blacks over here, and exploited them for years. Blacks have unwillingly helped build America with their blood, sweat, and tears. They have every right to call themselves AMERICAN. Even still it’s hard to see unmixed looking blacks in the media due to the fact that in America light is right. So let’s not act like were ignorant about this. Let’s be real. I still don’t have a problem with Vanessa Williams, of Halle Berry winning a crown though because they are a part of America’s mixed heritage, and we shouldn’t hide that, but we shouldn’t also disrespect blacks by calling these women “black” when they are clearly not. There has also been many black girls with Miss America, and Miss USA titles. We even had a Haitian Miss Florida by the name of Anastasia Pierre. Haiti on the other hand is a mostly black nation that used to be run by whites & mulattoes, and even-though we are a “free” nation we still think that lighter is better because that is all we see, and support. The ideal Haitian beauty IS light-skinned with long hair, and is not really “black”. This image hurts dark-skinned black women the most, who are the majority of the Haitian population. This is detrimental to Haitian girls who are already slathering skin bleaching creams on their bodies’ everyday to be fair-skinned. They are also hard pressed to see representations of themselves in the media, and even if they wanted to be that representation of the “dark skinned beauty” they would have a hard time getting “air time”. Or they would get beat out by a light-skinned girl. It’s the same colonial mentality that Americans have about “blackness”. There are way too many women out there in the media who look like Sarodj. She is nothing special, and if you think that mixed heritage, light skin, and long hair will win a contest then you are sadly mistaken. Sarodj is a “safe” choice, and that will not win a pageant. If they wanted a white looking girl to win the crown then they will pick a white girl. Haiti is a mostly Dark skinned African nation that is in serious need of having “REAL” black beauty represented, and don’t give me any of that bull**** “What is “black”?” rhetoric! We know what blackness is, and we do everything in our power to make sure that it is not shown because we are ashamed of it still. We have all heard the taunts in the school yard about being too dark. So don’t act like you don’t know. These girls grow up to be slighted even more when they try to chase their dreams. The type of beauty that Sarodj has is overrepresented among blacks, and overrepresented period! We have yet to tap the darkest part of our beauty spectrum because we don’t want to.

Racism? No body will say it is racism if a black woman wins the Miss U.S.A.(oh, wait a minute, that had happened already! several times I think).
I am panamanian, and there is a traditional beauty contest here called “panamenisima reina negra” (the panamanian black queen”. I do believe this contest should be abolished already, THIS IS A RACIST CONTEST, if there were something in Germany like “German white queen” or in the U.S. or whatever, everybody would say it is RACISM, but no one says so about a “Black Queen” contest.
And I just want to make another point, I am not black or white, I am a very mixed latina, I have black and Spanish in my background, and who the hell knows what else LOL

And that is proof that Bernard has the “Nigger Mentality”. Clearly this contest wasn’t fair, and denied Haitian women the OPPROTUNITY to represent their country. Bernard it’s not her fault she had to leave neither is it the fault of all the other Haitian women who had to leave so why not invite them?
